Every year, when it is time to create a budget for the school district, it's the lowest-paid employees who are the first ones to be up on the chopping block. And yet, our schools could not function without the support staff. These workers have value and they are vital to the operation of Metro's public schools.
As a taxpayer, I want to make sure that this year all employees are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. The School Board & the Metro Council owe it to our children to fully fund our schools in ways that do not involve layoffs, outsourcing, privatization, or cutting the working hours of our custodians, groundskeepers, and bus drivers.
Let's stop this Race to the Bottom!
